Le fiabe sono vere: exhibition at Palazzo Ducale in Mantua

The city of Mantua hosts the exhibition “Le fiabe sono vere: storia popolare italiana” at the Palazzo Ducale. The display is set up in the Corte Nuova, specifically in the Sala di Manto, the Sala dei Capitani, the Sala dei Marchesi, and the Loggia del Tasso. This opening marks the return to public access for these rooms following significant restoration work.

Curated by Massimo Osanna and Andrea Viliani for the Directorate General for Museums of the Ministry of Culture, the exhibition is the second stage of a project previously inaugurated at the Museum of Civilizations in Rome. The collection features over 500 works, including paintings, drawings, clothing, masks, amulets, ex-votos, agricultural tools, musical instruments, toys, photographs, prints, and films.

The exhibition highlights the deep connections between fairy tales, arts, and popular traditions, using the fairy tale as a narrative structure to offer a symbolic key for interpreting both the past and the present. The exhibition is open from July 15, 2026, to January 17, 2027, and is included in the museum entrance ticket for the Corte Vecchia/Corte Nuova route.
