GardaTrek Medium Loop 2: Rifugio San Pietro – Ceniga
A hike offering a long descent through the varied landscapes of Garda Trentino. Starting from Rifugio San Pietro, the route winds through the dense woods of Monte Calino, before opening onto the countryside surrounding Ceniga, nestled on the banks of the Sarca river. This stage is characterized by an almost constant descent, with a short ascent before reaching the valley floor.
Immersed in greenery, the trail offers panoramic views of the Basso Sarca and Lake Garda. While not requiring special mountaineering skills, a good level of physical fitness is necessary. The route touches the Croce di Bondiga, an ideal panoramic point for a stop, frequented by both hikers and bikers. Shortly before Ceniga, you cross the Laghel area, famous for its ‘lake that isn’t there’, a natural curiosity that manifests itself after heavy rains.
Points of interest:
- Croce di Bondiga: panoramic point with views of the Upper Garda.
- Laghel: small valley with the phenomenon of the temporary lake.
- Roman Bridge of Ceniga: ideal for a refreshing swim in the Sarca river at the end of the hike.
Tips: The route is generally feasible all year round, but in the winter months it is advisable to check the conditions of the route. At the end of the trek, take a dip in the Sarca river under the Roman Bridge of Ceniga.
