Giulietta VS Shakespeare: The Pop Musical Rewriting Destiny in Verona

Against the evocative backdrop of the Cloister of Santa Maria in Organo, the 2026 Teatro nei Cortili festival presents a bold, contemporary reimagining of Verona’s most iconic myth. From July 4th to July 13th, the CMT Musical Theatre Company stages “Giulietta VS Shakespeare, Musical Pop,” a production that challenges the audience with a provocative question: what if the heroine chose to defy the tragic fate penned by the Bard.

This show is a hymn to self-determination, portraying a modern Juliet who, supported by a circle of brilliant friends, takes control of her own narrative. The story is woven together with the most iconic hits from the late 90s and 2000s, creating a bridge between the historical legacy of Verona and contemporary pop culture. From the Backstreet Boys to Katy Perry, the soundtrack serves as the driving force behind a vibrant, ensemble-driven performance.

The production, a collective effort coordinated by Gaia Giacomazzi and Andrea Manganotto, transforms tragedy into a celebration of rebirth and freedom. For those seeking an evening of brilliant theatre in the heart of the Scaliger city, performances begin at 9.15 pm. It is a unique opportunity to rediscover the magic of Verona through a fresh, energetic lens.
