In Bardolino, specifically in Calmasino, on May 30th and 31st, a crucial moment of the Italian Risorgimento comes to life with the historical re-enactment of the Battle of Calmasino of May 29, 1848. An event that transforms the streets of the town into an open-air theater, where over a hundred costumed figures will bring back to life the salient phases of the clash between Piedmontese and Austrians, which took place during the First War of Independence. Despite its strategic importance for the battles of Curtatone and Montanara and the capture of Peschiera del Garda, this event of arms is often overlooked by history books. The Municipal Administration of Bardolino, in collaboration with the organizers, aims to promote the territory and celebrate the Risorgimento ideals.
The re-enactment is not only a spectacular event, but also an opportunity to reflect on history and the importance of Calmasino in that context. An immersion in the past, among period uniforms and faithful reconstructions, so as not to forget a significant episode in our national history.
