La Giazzera of Val di Gresta: A Cool Adventure in Ronzo-Chienis
Embark on a unique hike that takes you from the picturesque center of Ronzo to the Giazzera of Val di Gresta, a fascinating cave where ice persists even in summer. This natural phenomenon, known locally as “bus del giaz”, occurs at 1165 meters above sea level, in a cave formed among landslide boulders.
The Giazzera is not vast, but its peculiarity of preserving ice during the hot season has made it famous since ancient times, serving as a “natural refrigerator” until the First World War. Thanks to the collaboration between the Fondazione Museo Civico di Rovereto and the social cooperative Il Ponte, with the support of the Comunità della Vallagarina, the route has been made accessible with the use of Augmentative Alternative Communication.

Directions: From the center of Ronzo, follow the signs for the Cammino di San Rocco towards Bordala. In Prà del Lago, turn south onto Via Biaena, which leads to a forest road. Take the path on the left indicated for the “Giazzera”. The return is along the same route.
A hike suitable for everyone, combining geological interest, alpine flora and a unique experience in the Val di Gresta.
