Monte Creino: all of Lake Garda, just a step away

Easy to climb, hard to forget: a mini adventure with wow views of Lake Garda.

If you are looking for an easy trek, suitable for everyone, but with a crazy view of the entire Lake Garda, Monte Creino is the perfect destination!

This natural terrace in the Val di Gresta, in the Upper Garda Trentino, offers postcard-perfect views without the need for serious effort – ideal for families, beginners, or anyone after a refreshing day out.

A path for everyone, emotions for everyone: how to get to Monte Creino

From the car park in the locality of Santa Barbara (detailed information below), cross the road to take the well-marked path F18, which climbs gently between forest roads, farmland and stretches in the forest.

You will pass several cultivated fields and vegetable gardens (the renowned Val di Gresta potatoes are famous here), with incredible views of the entire Adamello-Brenta mountain range.

Follow the path and, in about half an hour (which will be more, because I assure you, you will get lost observing the beauty that surrounds you), you will reach the summit of Monte Creino (at an altitude of 1290 m). And here ‘save your eyes’! You will literally fall in love with the crazy view that will stand out in front of you.

Below you can see Torbole sul Garda, the Sarca river flowing into the lake, Monte Brione and Riva del Garda. Then to your left is Monte Altissimo, until you lose yourself with your gaze across the great Lake Garda, as if you were sitting on top of an aeroplane.

Info and tips for the hike:

  • Starting point: Path F18 starting from the car park in Santa Barbara (Ronzo-Chienis – TN) coordinates maps here
  • Duration: 1.5 hours (round trip)
  • Difficulty and altitude difference: Easy (also suitable for children and trekking buggies). The complete circular tour is 3.7 km long with about 120 m of altitude difference.
  • When to go: All year round, but spring and autumn are ideal for mild temperatures, striking colours, and less risk of mist.
  • Clothing: Trekking shoes are always recommended, but for this route, simple trainers are also fine. Also bring a windproof jacket (the air can blow at the top) and of course your camera!
  • This trail is also perfect for mountain-bikes and e-bikes.

Picnic with a view and historical curiosities

On the summit, you will find a beautiful meadow and, deviating downhill to the left along a very short marked path, the well-preserved remains of several Great War trenches and even a cave artillery emplacement (descend the ladder leading underground with caution, as the environment is very damp), evidence of the strategic past of this area.
There are also many exhibition signs on site, explaining the history in detail.

Bring a snack and enjoy a picnic with one of the most beautiful views of Lake Garda!

Why is Mount Creino a must-do?

Because it is easy, rewarding and accessible, with a panorama that makes you say ‘wow’ without even having to climb Everest.

Ready to conquer this natural terrace? You will see Lake Garda as if it were posing just for you!

According to the art of onomancy, the meaning of my name is described as follows: "it lives in the woods, sylvan and wild". Sometimes fate knows the way before you, and forges you with the most akin experiences. I live on the balcony of Lake Garda in San Zeno di Montagna. Passionate about trekking, photography and writing, which I combine in small adventures. If you are looking for me, you will find me in the forest overlooking the lake... with my Roberto and Gea.
