Hike to Monte San Martino: History and Panorama in Lomaso
An easy hike that will lead you to the discovery of the archaeological site of Monte San Martino, a place rich in history that dominates the Giudicarie Esteriori. This site, not to be confused with the one above Campi, offers a spectacular view and an immersion in the past.
The easiest route starts from San Giovanni al Monte, following the forest road that leads to Malga di Vigo. Initially flat, the path then gently descends towards the ruins. The archaeological area of San Martino Lundo/Lomaso was an important fortified high-medieval settlement (castrum), extending over 10,000 square meters (17,000 square meters the fortified area). A 1.5 km wall system protected the site, of which today you can admire sections brought to light.
