Sbigolada Torbolana: Gastronomic Tradition in Torbole sul Garda

The Sbigolada Torbolana, a popular gastronomic festival with roots dating back to 1874, takes place in Torbole sul Garda. Organized by the Comitato Sbigolada Torbolana with the patronage of the municipality of Nago Torbole, the event enlivens the historic Piazza Goethe during Carnival Sunday.

According to historical documents, on this day spaghetti seasoned with ‘aole’, small lake sardines, were offered to residents and visitors. This tradition, passed down for over a century, continues to delight palates with hundreds of kilos of spaghetti seasoned with sardele sauce and local extra virgin olive oil.

The preparation of the sauce involves the exclusive use of sardele fished in Lake Garda and EVO oil from the Riva del Garda and Arco area. Every year, the event attracts many visitors, with an estimated 4000-5000 portions of spaghetti distributed. The atmosphere is enriched by live music and entertainment for children, with magicians and clowns.
