The traditional rowing race of the Lake’s Flag returns to illuminate the waters of Bardolino. Rooted in the history of the Venetian Republic, the Regata delle Bisse is more than just a competition: it’s a symbol of passion, tradition, and connection to Lake Garda.
Since 1548, these regattas have accompanied crucial moments in the history of Lake Garda. The bisse, evolutions of flat-bottomed fishing boats, are propelled with the Venetian rowing style. Measuring 10.40 meters in length and 0.65 meters in width, these boats mount 4 oars of 4.50 meters each. The Venetian rowing style, reflecting the ancient techniques of the Venetians and fishermen of Lake Garda, involves rowing standing up and forward, with the face turned towards the bow.

In 1967, a group of enthusiasts from Gargnano revived these competitions. Today, the Regata delle Bisse sees the participation of 14 municipalities of Lake Garda and Lake Iseo, with a total of twenty boats competing. Organized by the Lega Bisse del Garda, the regatta takes place every year between June and August. The winning boat is awarded the prestigious Lake’s Flag, and the most skilled rowers receive the honor of parading in Venice during the Historical Regatta.
