“The Very Difficult Story of Ciccio Speranza’s Life” Staged at the Camploy Theatre in Verona

The Camploy Theatre in Verona hosts the award-winning show by Les Moustaches company, “The Very Difficult Story of Ciccio Speranza’s Life” on April 30th.

Ciccio, a young man with a dream of dancing, moves within a rural context marked by prejudice. His delicate soul contrasts with the suffocating environment in which he lives, an old shack that makes him feel like a pink dragonfly in a plexiglass case. His dream of dancing is too big to be contained.

Around Ciccio, the Speranza family repeats the same dynamics for generations: a violent father, a brother trapped in a world hostile to diversity. In this context, Ciccio fights to breathe and escape from what oppresses him. His life is a dark comedy between mud and dreams, a tale of discomfort, youth, identity, and the desire for freedom.

The show uses an invented language, a mix of dialects and archaic sounds, to describe a rural world on the margins, crushed by social immobility. The direction by Ludovica D’Auria and Alberto Fumagalli transforms rural reality into a sensory experience made of matter, smells, colors, and rhythm. The seasons mark time, opening the scene to dreams: fireflies that become stage lights, a rolling pin that simulates the accelerated heartbeat before the debut. Ciccio, in his pink tutu, dances and frees himself.

“The Very Difficult Story of Ciccio Speranza’s Life” is a parable about the power of dreams and the freedom to be oneself, even when everything seems to deny it.
