On May 31, 2026, a rare opportunity arises to explore a less-known, yet deeply fascinating, side of Verona. Fortress Day exceptionally opens the doors of two of the city’s military architectural gems: Forte Biondella and Forte Procolo, inviting visitors on a journey through history and memory.

Forte Biondella, a place normally inaccessible, reveals itself in all its solemn beauty. Guardian of testimonies from the Great War and home to a museum dedicated to the Gold Medal of Military Valor Carlo Ederle, it offers guided tours in four shifts (10:30, 11:30, 14:30, 15:30). Here, among historical environments and defensive positions, it will be possible to delve deeper into the history of Austrian Verona and its ingenious defensive system.

Simultaneously, Forte Procolo, one of the city’s largest and most evocative forts, unveils its secrets. A protagonist of the Austrian Quadrilateral defensive system, it will welcome visitors for two guided tour shifts (10:30, 14:30). A historical narrative will accompany the discovery of its internal spaces, courtyards, traverses, and corridors, immersing visitors in 19th-century atmospheres that recount Verona‘s strategic function as a military stronghold.

Organized by Fondazione Carlo Ederle, Associazione Historica Legio, and Associazione Verona Città Fortezza, this day is a unique chance to connect with the silent walls and the stories that still live behind ancient gates. Spaces are limited, and reservations are welcome, as is a conscious donation to support the associations’ efforts.
