In the heart of Verona, culture comes alive with a theatrical event of profound resonance. Teatro Modus, within the Spazio Cultura in Piazza Orti di Spagna, hosts “Rainer. L’indicibile” (The Unspeakable), a play celebrating the centenary of the passing of Rainer Maria Rilke, one of the most beloved and complex poets of the twentieth century.
This production offers a moving immersion into the inner world of the Prague-born poet, through his intense correspondence with Lou Von Salomé, his muse and confidante. On stage, Michele Matrella’s performance, enriched by Laura Murari’s voice-over and the evocative music of Hans Zimmer, guides the audience on an intimate journey.

The cleverly designed set adapts to four fundamental themes that Rilke explored with acute sensitivity: beauty, love, solitude, and art. Each scene becomes a chapter in this existential voyage, revealing Rilke’s worldview in his own words. Marica Preto, the creator of the show, has curated a selection of letters that, in an hour, manage to convey the depth of the poet’s thought.
It is a precious opportunity for those already familiar with “Duino Elegies” or “Sonnets to Orpheus,” as well as for those wishing to approach his work for the first time, finding illuminating insights into the human condition within his words.
