In Trento, history unfolds in ever-new ways, and the immersive experience “Ancient Water Stories” at Cappella Vantini stands as an eloquent testament to this. This project offers a unique opportunity to explore the city’s hydrographic past through virtual reality, a captivating journey that transcends the boundaries of time and space.
Donning a viewer, visitors are invited to “take a plunge” into historical paintings and images, rediscovering the ancient city waterways (rogge), the mills that once animated the landscape, and the original course of the Adige river. It is a deep immersion into a bygone era, where one can almost hear the stories of women washing clothes along the rogge and observe the appearance of Piazza Duomo before the devastating flood of 1966. Every detail is meticulously crafted to allow a virtual “stroll” through profoundly changed places, revealing secrets and perspectives otherwise inaccessible.

“Ancient Water Stories” represents the fourth chapter in a successful series, born from the collaboration between the Culture, Events, Sport and Youth office and important institutions such as the Museo Diocesano Tridentino and Castello del Buonconsiglio. The significant interest, with approximately seven thousand visitors since 2023 having embarked on these virtual explorations, confirms the effectiveness of this innovative method of cultural engagement.
The experience is available from June 3rd to November 4th, 2026, with free admission. Cappella Vantini welcomes curious minds from Tuesday to Sunday, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, offering a precious chance to connect with the most authentic and lesser-known soul of Trento.
