Anselmo Bucci: A 20th-Century Protagonist at the MART in Rovereto

The MART, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto, hosts from March 28th to September 27th, 2026, a comprehensive retrospective on Anselmo Bucci (1887-1955), an eclectic figure in Italian and European art of the 20th century. The exhibition, curated by Beatrice Avanzi and Luca Baroni, presents over 150 works, including paintings, engravings, drawings, and photographs, many of which are previously unpublished.

Bucci, a painter, engraver, draughtsman, and writer, traversed the 20th century with an independent spirit, oscillating between Paris and Milan and maintaining an autonomous position with respect to the Italian Novecento group, which he founded. His art ranges across different languages and techniques, maintaining an internal coherence thanks to a solid figurative culture and a profound literary sensibility, fueled by urban modernity and the experience of the Great War.

The exhibition includes loans from important private and public collections, including the Quadreria Cesarini – Casa Museo di Fossombrone, the Musei Civici di Monza, the Museo del Novecento in Milan, the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome, and the Istituto Centrale per la Storia del Risorgimento Italiano.
