“People of the River”: A Journey Through the History of the Adige in Rovereto

The Museo della Città in Rovereto reopens with “People of the River”, an exhibition celebrating the age-old bond between humanity and the Adige river. From March 4th to June 11th, 2023, immerse yourself in a narrative that traces centuries of history, revealing how this waterway shaped the economy and society of the riverside communities.

The exhibition doesn’t just tell the tales of rafters and fishermen, but explores an entire ecosystem of trades and traditions now almost forgotten. Through archaeological finds, ethnographic artefacts, and works of art, “People of the River” reconstructs the lives of the communities along the Adige from prehistoric times to the 19th century.

Discover the trade links, the movements of people and goods, and the identifying traces that wind along the river’s 400 kilometres. The exhibition is enhanced by graphic reconstructions illustrating the working activities and techniques used over the centuries. Don’t miss the guided tours, offered on the first and third Sundays of the month from March to May, and on June 4th, to further explore this fascinating chapter of local history.
