From April 3rd to May 3rd, 2026, Mantua hosts “The Task of Painting”, an exhibition celebrating the relevance of painting through works from the Bugatti-Segantini Prize collection. Promoted by the Province of Mantua, the Rossi Foundation, and the Libera Accademia di Pittura, in collaboration with the Flangini Cultural Association, the exhibition is curated by art historian and critic Massimo Bignardi.
The exhibition presents paintings by the prize-winners of the last three decades, highlighting how art bears witness to its time and to social and cultural changes. Luigi Emanuele Rossi, president of the Rossi Foundation, emphasizes how art warms the heart, translating the power of thought and revealing aspects of daily life that often escape us. Curator Massimo Bignardi, echoing Marcel Proust, describes the artworks as “magic mirrors” that reflect reality, focusing on the individual or expanding to the perimeter of the planet.

The exhibition features a selection of works by thirty-one artists, including Arcangelo, Renata Boero, and Riccardo Guarneri, the latter receiving the career award at the 67th Bice Bugatti-Giovanni Segantini International Prize. Through multiple creative languages, the exhibition creates a dialogue between different generations, emphasizing the need to overcome the crisis of the postmodern condition.
