Theodoric and Verona: 1500 years of history and myth

To mark the 1500th anniversary of the death of Theodoric the Great, King of the Ostrogoths, the University of Verona presents a series of public events exploring the deep connection between the sovereign and the city of Verona. The program, running from April to November 2026, investigates the historical figure of Theodoric and his evolution into the Germanic legend of Dietrich von Bern.

The initiative includes lectures and guided tours across various city locations, offering a unique opportunity to discover the sites and traditions linked to the Gothic king. Upcoming events include a guided lecture on Theodoric and the paleochristian basilica of Santo Stefano on October 9th at 4:30 PM, and a lecture on medievalisms in Veronese food and wine tradition on November 12th at 5:00 PM at the Natural History Museum.

Attendance at the conferences is free until all seats are filled. The guided tours are limited in capacity and require mandatory booking via the Eventbrite platform, to be completed no later than two days before each event date.
