Mantua, a city renowned for its profound cultural heritage, is poised to host an exhibition of exquisite beauty. From June 5 to 9, the evocative Sala delle Colonne of the Museo Diocesano Francesco Gonzaga will present “Treasures from the Collection,” an exhibition inviting a journey through centuries of ancient art. This initiative, reprised after the remarkable success of its previous edition – which saw exhibited works become part of Italy’s national artistic heritage – promises to uphold its high cultural standing.
The exhibition, curated by the Milanese gallery Ars Antiqua, will span from early sculpture to ancient painting, encompassing the Renaissance through to the 19th century. Special emphasis will be placed on sacred art, featuring masterpieces by renowned artists such as Giuseppe Cesari, known as Cavalier d’Arpino, Cesare Fracanzano, and Filippo Lauri. The display will also offer broad insights into other genres, from the captivating still lifes of Antonio Rasio and Pietro Paolo Cennini, to genre scenes and portraiture, with significant works by Santi di Tito and Lorenzo Delleani. A notable highlight will be Alessandro Antoniani’s previously unseen Battle of Guastalla (1734), holding great historical significance.
