Food, Memory, and Identity: A Dialogue in Trento

In Trento, an enriching experience of deep reflection awaits, where food transcends its nutritional role to become a keeper of stories and identity. On May 15, 2026, the “Novecento Trentino ’14 ‘72” museum space will host “CONDIRE: a dialogue on food, memory, and identity”, a free event anticipating the debut of “Déjà vu | Pergine”, a participatory performance curated by director Alessandro Businaro.

This gathering is the culmination of meticulous theatrical research conducted by Businaro, along with actors Romina Colbasso and Paolo Tosin, within several residential care homes in the Trentino region. There, they collected recipes, daily gestures, and precious fragments of life from elderly residents, building a bridge between past and present through taste.

The evening in Trento is not merely an event, but an invitation to explore the indissoluble link between what we eat and who we are. Director Alessandro Businaro, dramaturg Stefano Fortin, and anthropologist Angelo Longo will guide the audience in a stimulating discussion, moderated by Elisabetta Antonelli from the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino. They will delve into how food memory can act as an emotional “short circuit”, transforming a personal recollection into a collective heritage, capable of defining a community and its cultural legacy.

This is an opportunity to rediscover the value of food not just as sustenance, but as a vehicle for belonging and recognition. Admission is free, offering everyone the chance to participate in this sensory and intellectual exploration.
