GardaTrek Low Loop 1: From Riva del Garda to Arco
The first leg of the GardaTrek Low Loop takes you from Riva del Garda to Arco, passing through Tenno. A constant up and down through the green olive groves, with a constant view of Lake Garda.
The route embraces the western side of Garda Trentino, drawing a semicircle on the slopes of the mountains surrounding the lower course of the Sarca river. Along the way you can visit some of the symbolic places of Garda Trentino:
✨ Live Lake Garda: Unique Experiences Handpicked for You
- Bastione of Riva del Garda: Shortly after the start of the trail, you can reach the Bastione with a short detour, a fortress of Venetian origin built to defend the port of Riva and an excellent panoramic point over the town and the entire northern part of Lake Garda.
- Church of San Lorenzo in Tenno: Some of the oldest frescoes in Trentino, dating back to the 12th century, are preserved in this small church. The church is located at the southern end of the fortified village of Frapporta, an agglomeration of houses of medieval origin that huddle around the castle of Tenno.
- Arco Castle: The castle stands on a rock that dominates the entire Upper Garda area. Today you can visit the ruins of several buildings.
The route starts from Riva del Garda (via Monte Oro) and climbs towards the Bastione, then continues along paths and dirt roads to Arco, where the first stage ends. The trail is well marked with the words “GardaTrek Low Loop”.
