The Golden Theatre: A Tribute to Luciano Baldessari in Rovereto

Immerse yourself in art and scenography with “The Golden Theatre,” an exhibition dedicated to Luciano Baldessari’s sketches for Riccardo Zandonai’s opera “Giuliano.” Hosted between the Teatro Zandonai and the Archivio del ‘900 of the Mart in Rovereto, the exhibition, curated by the Fondazione C.A.S.V.A. in collaboration with the Mart, unveils precious sketches from various prestigious archives.

Visitors can admire the rich range of modulations typical of Baldessari, influenced by his Berlin period and the experiments of the Bauhaus. The costumes recall the style of Pisanello and Gentile, evoking a fairy-tale Middle Ages, while the dramatic scenes suggest bright colors and intense shadows.

In the spaces of the Mart, a selection of historical works and documents underlines the link between visual art and music in the city, highlighting the friendship and collaboration between Baldessari and Zandonai. The exhibition, promoted by the Municipality of Rovereto with the contribution of the Comunità della Vallagarina, celebrates the eightieth anniversary of Zandonai’s birth and the centenary of the dedication of the theater to his name.

The exhibition can be visited at the Teatro Zandonai from 10.30 am to 6.30 pm (December 31 from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm, closed on December 25 and 26 and January 1) and at the Mart from Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm (Friday and Saturday from 10.00 am to 7.30 pm, closed on December 25). Admission is free.
