The Lessinia Gnocchi Palio: A Journey into the Heart of Taste and Tradition

In the serene uplands of Lessinia, an eagerly awaited event calls to lovers of authentic traditions and flavours. On June 21, 2026, the former NATO base in Sant’Anna d’Alfaedo, within the municipality of Bosco Chiesanuova, will host the tenth edition of the “Palio degli Gnocchi della Lessinia”, an event that has become a cornerstone of local food and wine culture.

This festival, sponsored by regional bodies and the Slow Food presidium, is a grand celebration of the main ingredient in Veronese mountain cuisine: gnocchi. Five competing kitchens – Breonio, Ceredo-Ronconi, Erbezzo, Giare, and Sant’Anna d’Alfaedo itself – will vie for the prestigious Palio title, offering visitors the chance to taste their unique interpretations of this traditional dish.

Yet, the Palio extends far beyond a simple culinary contest. The programme is rich with activities for all. From 12:00, the food and wine stands will open their doors, inviting guests to explore a menu ranging from Monte Veronese cheese with local preserves, to beef and Brogna sheep burgers, and artisanal shortcrust pastries. Organic wines from local wineries will also be available, to be savoured with appreciation and respect for the territory.

For those wishing to explore the surrounding nature, activities include a “Battesimo della Sella” (horse riding baptism), mini e-bike tours, and guided excursions. The afternoon will be enlivened by live music from Americana Acoustic Strings and, to mark the 32nd International Music Festival, a concert by the Fiorelin del Bosc choir at the charming Romanesque church of San Giovanni in Loffa.

The Lessinia Gnocchi Palio offers a wonderful opportunity to immerse oneself in the traditions, flavours, and natural beauty of this corner of Veneto, enjoying an authentic and genuine experience.
