Trekking to Monte Bestone, an incredible view of the upper Lake Garda.

All the indications to reach the summit of Monte Bestone above Limone sul Garda in 60 minutes. Come with us!

To the south-west of Limone sul Garda, we find Mount Bestone, from the top of which it is possible to admire the high Lake Garda in all its splendor.

To the south-west of Limone sul Garda (BS), we find Mount Bestone, from the top of which it is possible to admire the high Lake Garda in all its splendor. The location is not one of the best known, but the view is truly amazing and on clear days the eye gets lost captivated at 360° by the clear waters and beautiful mountains. Once we reach the cross on the top (917m above sea level), Limone stands out in front of us and literally overlooking the lake, with an elongated perspective as you may have never seen it before. Then you get lost between the Gardesane Prealps and the South Eastern Alps.

The trek has two main options. It is possible to climb directly from Limone sul Garda, with a panoramic but rather demanding path of about 9km. The difference in altitude is about 920m and takes just over 4h. The second option, much less demanding, involves the departure from Tremosine, specifically from the locality “le Balze”, near the hamlet of Voltino (702m above sea level). In this case the total altitude difference is about 250m, which must be tackled through an easy and panoramic path, which takes about 60min.

Easier trekking to reach Mount Bestone (difference in height: 250 m – travel time: 60 min).

Today we will talk about the easier route, which is well signposted and does not present particular difficulties either in terms of height or terrain. As mentioned by Voltino, we leave near the “Le Balze” hotel, leaving the car in one of the free parking spaces on site. After the structure, keeping to the left, take path 110, which immediately catapults us into a splendid wood composed largely of maritime pine. The path climbs with a steep slope but after a few minutes we will be able to admire a crazy panorama towards the west. In front of us the imposing Monte Baldo and the clear waters of Malcesine.

The path continues in the open air and in a few minutes we will finish (for the moment) the uphill stretch, starting an ups and downs and crossing the remains of a forest destroyed by a fire. A real shame, but nature has already begun to thrive and the resulting environment is truly suggestive. The path has a loose and stony ground and includes some variations. One of them leads to a rock spike with a 180° view of Lake Garda, which gives a foretaste of the view from the final peak. If you do not suffer from vertigo it is certainly worth a visit, but with caution and attention as it is very exposed.

We are halfway through the trek and the time has come to tackle a short downhill stretch. The classic path winds between the crests and is always panoramic but presents some minimal difficulties: alternatively it is possible to take a forest road on the left, which instead descends gently into the woods. The variants join the locality “Bocchetta Rocca” (802m). At this point, another 20 minutes of climbing remain to be tackled, continuing on the previous mule track which will then turn back into a path, always easy and not exposed, albeit steep towards the end.

We have reached the final stretch, a very panoramic ridge! A few minutes and we reach the cross and the bell placed on the top of Mount Bestone, it’s done! The view is literally breathtaking, we are in front of a truly unique spectacle. We enjoy a large part of Lake Garda from north to south, with its crystal clear waters and the splendid peaks that surround it. Limone is overhanging below us and the gaze is lost among the Gardesane Prealps among which the Bondone, Stivo and Baldo mountains stand out.

The spot is absolutely perfect for enjoying the first light of day and the morning in general, as in this case. In the afternoon, some areas of the landscape will gradually descend into the shade. I also recommend bringing binoculars, not only for the amazing views available, but also to admire the possible fauna of the Alto Garda Natural Park. On the way back, we face the same path as the first leg.

See you next time dear Outdoors!
