The Italian War History Museum in Rovereto hosts a profound reflection on collective memory with the exhibition “E noi che ne sappiamo?” (And what do we know about it?). The exhibition examines how the Italian colonial period, spanning from the late 19th century to the Second World War, has been narrated and how it can be understood today.
By conducting research on its own collections and regional archives, the museum explores how colonial imagery was built upon stereotypes and romanticized readings, often employed to justify dominion and violence. The artifacts, documents, and propaganda tools displayed serve as dual-meaning testimonies: they are historical records of colonial narratives and, simultaneously, essential sources for a critical assessment of Italy’s colonial history.
✨ Live Lake Garda: Unique Experiences Handpicked for You
The exhibition is enriched by an artistic installation created by Martina Melilli in collaboration with Attila Faravelli, which blends historical rigor with artistic expression. Part of the Euregio Museum Year 2025, dedicated to justice and social equality, the project invites visitors to reflect on the prejudices and historical omissions that persist in contemporary society.
