Richard Artschwager at Mart, Rovereto: A Retrospective of the Minimalist Master

Mart, the museum of modern and contemporary art in Rovereto, hosted an extraordinary retrospective dedicated to Richard Artschwager, a key figure in minimalism. Curated by Germano Celant and produced in collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the exhibition represented the largest European display ever dedicated to the American artist (1923-2013).

The exhibition explored the relationship between space, everyday objects, and perception, central elements in Artschwager’s poetics. His works, often made with industrial materials such as Formica and aluminium, challenge artistic conventions, suspending the image between utility and representation. The attention to pure geometric forms and pictorial illusionism completed the picture of a unique artist.

Visitors were able to admire a wide selection of paintings and sculptures that redefine the boundaries between art and object, inviting reflection on the perception of reality. The exhibition, a must-see event for contemporary art lovers, offered a comprehensive overview of Artschwager’s career, celebrating his originality and influence in the 20th-century art scene.
