Saint Francis and the Franciscans at San Fermo Maggiore: themed guided tours

To mark the 2026 Franciscan Year and the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Chiese Vive Association is hosting a series of themed guided tours at the Church of San Fermo Maggiore in Verona. This site houses the city’s richest collection of Franciscan-themed artworks.

Participants will have the opportunity to view one of the oldest frescoes of the Saint, dating back to approximately 1280 in the lower church, as well as 14th-century frescoes and the Brenzoni mausoleum. The church, a refined example of the Gothic style associated with the Order of Friars Minor, is notable for its unusual architectural links to French design, specifically its spires and pinnacles. The site also honors the martyrs Fermo and Rustico, whose history is depicted on the bronze reliefs of the portal.

The tours are scheduled for September 26, October 3, October 4, October 18, and November 7, 2026. Start times vary: 16:00 on September 26, October 3, and October 4; 15:00 on October 18; and 15:30 on November 7. Each tour lasts one hour.
