Event Details

  • 📅 Start Date: 01/01/2026
  • 🔚 End Date: 31/12/2026
  • 📍 Location: Rovereto

The Italian War History Museum in Rovereto presents the poignant photographic exhibition “Sarajevo 1992-1996”, curated in collaboration with the Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso Transeuropa. Through the lens of photojournalist Mario Boccia, the exhibition documents key moments of the siege of Sarajevo, offering insight into the resilience of its people between 1992 and 1996.

The siege of Sarajevo, one of the most harrowing events of the Yugoslav Wars, is depicted through images portraying both the besieged and the besiegers. The photographs capture the determination of the inhabitants to defend their identity, as well as the wounds inflicted on the city, including its symbolic buildings such as the National Library, devastated by fire in 1992.

A section of the exhibition is dedicated to European solidarity initiatives, with a focus on Italian contributions. Alongside the photographs, objects collected by Ambrogio Paraboni, an Italian citizen involved in humanitarian missions in Bosnia Herzegovina in the ’90s, are on display.

The exhibition, open until September 10, 2023, offers a profound reflection on the impact of war on society and culture, fostering a critical awareness of contemporary conflicts. The museum is located in Via Castelbarco, 7, 38068 Rovereto.
