The Monte Veronese Cheese Festival in Erbezzo: A Tribute to Tradition and Taste

Nestled in the heart of Lessinia, amidst the gentle hills of the Verona province, the picturesque village of Erbezzo is preparing to host an event celebrating one of its culinary treasures: Monte Veronese cheese. On May 31, the 34th edition of the Monte Veronese Cheese Festival promises a day dedicated to authentic flavours and rich local traditions.

From the early morning, Piazza della Chiesa and the village streets will come alive with exhibitions and sales of dairy products and other typical specialities from the Veronese mountains, ranging from honey and jams to dried fruit and cured meats. It will be a valuable opportunity to meet the master cheesemakers and producers from the Protection Consortium directly, discovering the various types of this PDO cheese: from the “latte intero” (whole milk) Monte Veronese to the more aged “d’allevo” and “di Malga” varieties.

The festival offers a rich and engaging program for all ages. Children, and adults alike, can try their hand at a fascinating “An Hour as a Cheesemaker” workshop, learning the secrets of cheesemaking and creating their own caciotta. In the afternoon, a traditional costume parade and the award ceremony for the “Best Monte Veronese PDO” will add a touch of solemnity and folklore, culminating in the investiture of new Councillors of the “Eccelsa et Insigne Arte dei Formaggeri”. There will also be musical entertainment featuring Cimbrian accordions and the Grezzana Town Band, along with the chance to witness live cheese making in the square.
