Tracing the Ice Age: Ice Age Europe Day returns to Viote

On September 27, 2026, the Viote basin on Monte Bondone, overlooking Trento, will become an open-air stage dedicated to prehistory. The ninth edition of the Ice Age Europe Day at the Alpine Botanical Garden invites visitors to travel back in time, retracing the steps of hunter-gatherers who, 13,000 years ago, used this area as a sanctuary during the last Ice Age.

This event offers a unique opportunity to explore recent archaeological studies conducted by MUSE, which have identified 29 new sites in the area. The program features a five-stage thematic route designed to provide an immersive experience into the daily life of our ancestors. With the guidance of archaeologist Alessandro Potì and the historical reenactment group Gente del Fiume, guests can witness ancient techniques such as flint knapping, woodworking, and plant fiber weaving.

Organized in collaboration with the Monte Bondone Reserves Network, the day serves as a cultural bridge to our origins in one of Trentino’s most beautiful natural settings. Admission to the Garden is free, while participation in the experiential activities requires a small fee of 3 euros.
