Tree Portraits – Memories of the Subsoil in Rovereto: A Dialogue Between Art and Science

At the City Museum, “Tree Portraits” presents a collection of approximately forty paintings, ranging from the late nineteenth to the twentieth century. These works celebrate the tree as a privileged subject, a symbol of memory, time, and introspection. Admire masterpieces by Giovanni Segantini, Gaetano Previati, Umberto Moggioli, and many others, in a journey that reveals the eternal fascination of this natural element in art. The Museum’s Botany section enriches the experience, illuminating the biological and symbolic aspects of the tree species portrayed.

Meanwhile, at the Museum of Science and Archaeology, “Memories of the Subsoil” invites you on an evocative journey into the depths of the Earth. Through five natural environments – glaciers, volcanoes, caves, quarries, and landslides – you will discover the geological and environmental transformations of our planet. Naturalistic elements, extraordinary fossils, minerals, and historical artifacts interact with works by contemporary artists, offering food for thought on time, matter, and the climate crisis.
