In Rovereto, a poignant initiative brings to light the voices of the women who shaped the history of the Manifattura Tabacchi (Tobacco Factory). The “Filzi” elementary school of Borgo Sacco has curated a collection of testimonies and memories, a project that has culminated in an exhibition and guided tours of the Manifattura, led by volunteers from the History Workshop.
The school project from 1986/87, entitled “Dedica alle zigherane” (Dedication to the Zigherane – female tobacco workers), reveals the trust that children and teachers placed in the Manifattura as a pillar of their future. The exhibition displays interviews, colourful drawings, and statistics, which have been kept in the “Tartarotti” Civic Library.

In conjunction with the “Un borgo e il suo fiume” (A Village and its River) 2023 event, the Rovereto History Workshop also presents the exhibition “Dalle Manifatture alla Manifattura. L’esodo giuliano dalmata a Rovereto” (From the Factories to the Factory. The Julian-Dalmatian Exodus in Rovereto), previously set up at the Civic Library.
The free guided tours, with mandatory booking, offer an immersion into the history of the Manifattura and its workers. An opportunity to honour the past and understand the present of Rovereto.
