Lake Garda as a couple: 4 romantic, original, and alternative destinations to visit in winter

In this article, we will explore four original and alternative destinations, perfect for experiencing romantic moments beyond the ordinary during the winter season.

Lake Garda, with its enchanting and diverse landscapes, has always been a romantic destination for couples seeking special moments. However, beyond the classic tourist spots, there are lesser-known places that can make your romantic getaway even more unique and unforgettable.
In this article, we will explore four original and alternative destinations, perfect for experiencing romantic moments beyond the ordinary during the winter season.

1 – Stay in the typical barns of Cima Rest

In a setting that respects the Austro-Hungarian rural tradition, these typical houses with sloping roofs made of straw offer a moment of close contact with nature in one of the most characteristic environments of the Brescian Prealps of Lake Garda (info here).
We find ourselves in Val Vestino, a territory waiting to be discovered, rich in hiking trails for beautiful walks immersed in tranquility and far from tourist crowds.

2 – Strolling through a di-wine territory: Valtenesi

Valtenesi lies in the southwestern area of Lake Garda, in the Brescia province. It consists of coastal municipalities facing the lake and inland municipalities nestled on the morainic hills: Padenghe sul Garda, Moniga del Garda, Manerba del Garda, San Felice del Benaco, Puegnago del Garda, Polpenazze del Garda, and Soiano del Lago.
Dotted with ancient villages, medieval castles towering amidst the green and blue, splendid villas, and towers that have marked history, Valtenesi is also a significant region for the production of DOC wine and PDO extra virgin olive oil. In particular, a rosé wine called “Chiaretto” is produced here, made from Groppello, a native grape variety of the area. Click here for all the information.

3 – Discovering the ‘Terra dei Forti’ (Land of Fortresses)

The Val d’Adige is the stretch of the valley traversed by the Adige River, extending from Merano to its entry into the Po Valley just north of Verona. It is located east of Lake Garda, separated by the Monte Baldo mountain range. Its main cities are Bolzano, Trento, Rovereto, and Verona.

Its origin is also linked to the presence of a series of castles and military fortifications, earning this area worldwide recognition as the “Land of Fortresses.” These structures were strategically constructed here because the Val d’Adige has been, for centuries, the connecting route between the Mediterranean world and the Alpine-European region, making it heavily guarded and contested. Explore them all, immersing yourself in the tranquility of the nature of this magical territory. Click here for all the information.

4 – Staying at Castel Toblino, immersed in history

Lake Toblino is a small alpine lake located in Trentino at 245 meters above sea level, surrounded by a beautiful walk along a lush reed bed and dominated by the homonymous Castel Toblino. A romantic landscape that offers truly picturesque views of its water mirror and the surrounding panorama. The stroll around its shores is easy, entirely flat, and suitable for everyone. Find all the information about Castel Toblino here.

Romance and adventure, away from the chaos, to experience moments of tranquility, dialogue, and knowledge. To create a new “story” within your own story! I’d like to conclude with “stellar kisses to all” inspired by Valeria Marini (a popular Italian showgirl and actress) not to be overly sentimental but to bring a smile. Ciao dear Outdoors!

According to the art of onomancy, the meaning of my name is described as follows: "it lives in the woods, sylvan and wild". Sometimes fate knows the way before you, and forges you with the most akin experiences. I live in the heart of Lake Garda in Castelletto di Brenzone. Passionate about trekking, photography and writing, which I combine in small adventures. If you are looking for me, you will find me in the forest overlooking the lake... with my Roberto and Gea.
